Lost and Found is the first sculpture I created in this series before I knew much about my ancestors. The work references facial features of my family & of my Scottish heritage. The hanging fetishes, facial powder & the colors used, hold meaning in Vodou, a religion that originated in West Africa. I was drawn to mud homes from Mali, where I now know my ancestors are from. I was searching for my unknown identity & a sense of connectedness.
